ABOUT THE CLUB

CLUB EVENTS AND ACTIVITIES

Savages club house is located at the Cyril Geoghegan cycling stadium in Goble Rd. The club has ample secure parking with excellent toilet and shower facilities. Savages is a vibrant and active club and in that spirit has a well stocked pub in the club house.

Time Trials:
Savages is an active member of the time trial league sponsored by GU. This league is essentially a competition between any club that wishes to participate, hosted by 8 different clubs.
Club members are encouraged to make themselves available for league time trial duty. The League Events start at 18:00. Savages hosts a league event once a year. Time trials are followed by a bring and braai, which is a great opportunity to meet and socialise with other club members.

Please check the events and race calendar here for the next time trial league event.

Burman Bush:
Thursday nights is the Burman Bush run, with varying distances of between 10 and 13 km's, made up of 2 pace groups. The run starts at 17:30 from the club premises.

Savages 21.1 km Challenge:
Savages hosts and organises a 21.1 km road race annually, held 3 to 4 weeks after the Comrades Marathon. We face a continuous challenge to find sponsorship but this race traditionally offers excellent prize money and high quality tee shirts to participants. The race starts and finishes at the Savages club house.
Refer to our Race Page for more details
Annual Pub to Pub:
December of each year all club members are encouraged to slow down and participate in the Pub to Pub run, starting at the club house and running a circular route through Morningside "Runners" stop at various pubs and enjoy the finest lagers and stouts of that pub. We do not discriminate against non stout and lager consumers and encourage them to join in the fun consuming lemonades on the way. .
Annual Christmas Dinner:
In line with all organisations we have an annual Christmas dinner to compound the already overloaded December month of drinking, eating and celebrating. Contact Us for more information.
Christmas Run: This run (15 km) is hosted by Westville Athletics Club and sponsored by Illovo Sugar, normally held mid December. On this run we encourage our members to participate in what is a truely fun and festive race, with all hopes of PB's out the window. The pace is set by the slowest runner and it's fun all the way. Savages have won the trophy for the most festive club bus on 9 occasions. Savages embraces a specific theme for each year and is normally in the form of a vehicle that requires some sort of pushing or pulling, including the Father Christmas driver and a cooler box of refreshments, an important piece of survival equipment on such an important run.
Club Tent:
Once the annual race calendar is released, we compile a race tent roster, and erect our club tent or gazebo at various races based on popularity and the availability of volunteers. It is an opportunity to socialise, (we do have a cooler box of refreshments) or commiserate and at least "dump" your tog bag while you collect your prizes at prize giving.

Club Communications:
We essentially rely on email for communication with club members. We also send out a club communication called the "Cleft Stick", quarterly, which is essentially historical and anecdotal.
